About Our Store

The Goldworks Ltd. was opened in October 1986 by Dave Mereski. After spending several years in a family owned business, Dave decided to branch off on his own and pursue more of the repair and design end of the business. Now 25 years later, The Goldworks has two generations of family jewelers offering the very best in quality service and product in Southern Alberta. The Goldworks has grown from a small one man operation in a small corner pocket location, to owning their own 2500 sq. ft. building, with a 1500 sq. ft. shop, and 1000 sq. ft. in retail showroom.

With the addition of Dave’s two sons, and wife into the fold, the business has continued to grow and expand. In the past 3 years we have added Laser welding and Matrix CAD / CAM services to the operation. This has opened many doors to the design and repair capabilities of the shop. With five full-time goldsmiths, we can offer any type of jewellery service.

One of our most popular services is redesigning old and worn out jewellery. We have perfected the process of using the customer’s old stones and gold, to redesign the jewellery into new and exciting pieces. Rings, pendants, earrings...either from our large selection of original creations we have in our mold file, or something using our new technology. This is extremely popular as the customer is able to use all of their own sentimental materials. We can create absolutely anything from them. With the addition of the new CNC technology, it opens up doors to unlimited application for this type of service..

What would a jewellery shop be without a repair service? We have some of the best jewellery repair goldsmiths on staff at The Goldworks. There is never a job to complicated. There is a saying in our area, and that is “If the Goldworks can’t fix it…nobody can!” We are here to offer the very best in service to our customers, and best quality in or product. About Our Staff

Dave MereskiDave MereskiDave was born in Taber, Alberta in 1956. In 1960, his father John walked in to the local jewellery store to buy his children watches and ended up buying the store while he was there. Since then, there has always been a Mereski in the jewellery business in Southern Alberta. Dave is a second generation jeweller. He worked in the family business for several years, and then decided to branch off on is own and get out of retail sales and get more into the goldsmithing and service end of the business. He started The Goldworks Ltd. in 1986 on his own, with a single bench and a few hand tools. He is proficient in all facets of jewellery design and manufacturing as well as repair services. He does it all around the shop, from wax carving through casting, finishing, and stone setting of any style. He is a master repairman and has never met a job he could not do. Dave's passion is wax modeling, but with the addition of the Gemvision Matrix software and REVO-540 milling system to his shop he has passed on most of his carving duties to his sons. Now he spends his time doing most of the finish work and stone setting. His major thrust now is trying to make sure that both of his sons inherit his skills as a craftsman.

Elliot MereskiDave MereskiElliot was also born in Taber in 1981. Even as a young child, he liked to hang around the shop with his dad and play with the tools. When he graduated from high school he had already spent a couple of seasons of part-time help at the shop. Elliot is what you would call a bit of a natural; he excelled at all facets of goldsmithing as he learned them from his father. He decided that this was for him and that he wanted to be a lifer. He is fluent in all forms of goldsmithing, but since he has been trained on the Gemvision system he does almost exclusively software design now. He is part of the future of the business and really loves what he does. He does a lot of the direct customer service and sales.

Dave MereskiDave MereskiGraham was born in Lethbridge in 1984. As a youngster, he too spent a lot of time at the shop. He decided to join the crew in 2003 and pursue a career in goldsmithing. Graham is the head of the repair department, and takes care of all the repair service through the shop. He is an excellent repairman, and is constantly perfecting new skills. He is learning advanced stone setting and advanced repair techniques as well. His forte’ is the laser welder, on which he is a master. His other great skill is computer hardware management. Without him, we would be dead in the water when it comes to computer maintenance. Graham also does much of the direct customer sales.

Dave MereskiDave MereskiEarl was born in Aneroid, Saskatchewan in 1966. His family had been involved in the watch making business, and as a result, Earl came to work for Dave in 1987 to receive some training. Earl worked for Dave for four years and returned to Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1990. He and his folks operated a small watch and jewellery shop there until 2004 , at which time Earl decided to come back to Alberta.. He closed his shop, relocated to Lethbridge and has come back to his original jewellery family, much to the delight of Dave and the boys. Earl specializes in all forms of very advanced jewellery repairs: re-tipping and rebuilding worn jewellery. He also takes a large part of the work from Dave on the custom design end, finishing and prepping mounts and some stone setting.

Teresa is the matriarch and probably the most powerful of the full-timers. Without her, the place would probably fall apart. She takes care of the front end. Customer service, accounting, ordering, as well as helping with small bench projects and restringing. The jobs she loves most is being wife and mother to the crew, and helps us all stay grounded and productive.
